Update:
On March 5, 2016, the first class was held with both the Vallejo Fire Department and Solution for At Risk Youth (SFARY), a non-profit organization that is working with the Fire Department to fully implement the program.
A total of 35 students from local high schools were recruited to the program and will receive weekly instruction in fire safety, uniforms, and meals, as well as take part in several team-building activities and recreational opportunities. The program was completed in November 2016 with a recognition and awards dinner.
With more than $4,000 in unused funds, the program began a second academy in March 2017.
