Project Description: |
Provided low or no cost spay/neuter procedures to pets of Vallejo residents. Residents paid a nominal fee and the City covered the majority of the cost of the procedure. Low-income residents that demonstrated financial need received a procedure for their pet at no cost. |
Implementing Entities:
Humane Society of the North Bay (HSNB)
Broadway Pet Hospital
All Creatures Veterinary Hospital
Bayside Veterinary Hospital
Update: The program averaged 53 spay or neuter procedures every month on Vallejo's cats and dogs, with more than 1,500 procedures completed. Residents paid, on average, approximately 23% of the cost; the City of Vallejo covered the balance and paid the vet clinics directly.
In 2017, a slightly modified version of the spay and neuter project appeared on the Cycle 4 PB ballot, titled "Fixing Pets & Feral Cats for Better Health," and was allocated $74,319. The project was completed in November 2018 after providing over 700 procedures. Read more about the proposal, here.
