Project Room Key protects the most vulnerable people in our community, the homeless and unsheltered, by slowing the spread of the disease among these populations and to others in the community. Project Room Key participants have either tested positive for COVID-19 or have underlying health conditions that place them at higher risk for contraction of the disease.

Homeless and unsheltered individuals who have either tested positive for COVID-19 or are at an increased risk for contracting the disease due to underlying health conditions will be participants in Project Room Key.

The City of Vallejo outreach team has established contact with many individuals before the start of the program to focus on building relationships with potential participants. Resource Connect Solano (RCS) has conducted phone outreach to homeless individuals with the highest risks for COVID-19 complications. RCS provides the names and contact information to the lead contact at the City of Vallejo. The lead then works closely with hotels, and community partners to do an additional health assessment with local health partners. Then they refer the participant for an immediate intake into the program.

Two hotels in the Vallejo City-limits will be host to Project Room Key participants.

Between the two facilities, there will be 180 rooms available in the program.

The City of Vallejo has entered into an occupancy agreement with the facilities.

Project Room Key is a temporary program designed to provide life-saving and community protecting support to our community during the COVID-19 crisis for three months.

Each room is equipped with hygiene items such as combs, shampoo, body soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste for participants.

Upon intake in the Project Room Key Program, each participant is provided with two days of food delivered by our partner organization, Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels will continue to support the effort throughout the duration of the program.

We understand the importance of pet companions, especially in times like these, and we are happy to offer the option for participants to bring their loved pet companions with them for the duration of their stay in the program. Supplies are provided for pets such as in-room crates, toys, and food.

Participants will be able to leave the hotel if they are not positive for COVID-19. Those who are negative will be able to sign in and out of the hotel for essential trips only (groceries, healthcare appointments, etc.)

Yes. A private security company will have officers on-site 24 hours a day.

Participants entering the program with extra belongings will be offered on an on-site storage option.

Appropriate accommodations are available for participants with accessibility challenges, such as those in wheelchairs.

Staffing will consist of:

• Administrative liaisons from the City of Vallejo

• County health officials

• Touro University Nursing Staff

• County client services managers and case managers

• Private security staff

Staff will monitor participant behavior to ensure that the program rules are followed, to provide daily health and wellness checks of participants, to deliver food to participant's rooms, and to respond to any participant needs.

Project Room Key participants will have access to medical care for the duration of their stay, which is provided by our nursing staff partners from Touro University along with Solano County Public Health and Fighting Back Partnership.

A code of conduct has been established for participants at the Project Room key sites. This code of conduct outlines expectations for those participating in the program. Service providers explain the code of conduct to participants upon entry into the program and remind them of its provisions throughout their stay.

The City has contracted with a private security firm that has security guards on-site 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The security staff is present to ensure the safety of everyone on site.
