UPDATE – NOV. 20, 2019: VALLEJO SCHOOL WILL HAVE PLATINUM-RATED EARTHQUAKE TECHNOLOGY

The Mare Island Technology Academy will contain five classrooms build by iMod Structures, a company that recently build the first educational facility with a Platinum Earthquake Rating from the U.S. Resiliency Council.

The Earthquake Building Rating System was created by the USRC to ensure that schools, hospitals, businesses, and other organizations receive reliable buildings that can withstand a traumatic earthquake event. iMod has already delivered 12 modules to a Southern California school district office. iMod uses steel moment frames and integrates high-tech heating and ventilation systems, panelized walls and audio-visual systems from other manufacturers to create their modules. The frame wall panel window system is designed to allow movement of two inches in any direction without breaking the windows.

A note from iMod Co-Founder Craig Severance:
"There is no question of whether or not there will be another major earthquake in California. Given that inevitability, schools and universities need to ask themselves whether they have adequately factored resiliency into their facility plans. ...We are thrilled that iMod Structures is leading the way in this initiative and not only actively advocating for safer schools for our state's students, teachers and administrators but also for resilient classrooms that can return shortly to full operations after a major seismic event. Why allow an earthquake to interrupt our children's education?"
