CDBG Program

The City of Vallejo is entitled to receive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds each year from the Federal government. The purpose of the CDBG Program is to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, primarily for members of the community who are of low and moderate income.

Not less than 70 percent of CDBG funds must be used for activities that benefit low and moderate income persons. In addition, each activity must meet one of the following national objectives for the program: benefit low and moderate income persons, prevention or elimination of slums or blight, or address community development needs having a particular urgency because existing conditions pose a serious and immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community for which other funding is not available.

The City creates its own CDBG funded programs, projects, and funding priorities, through a collaborative process which includes target area neighborhood residents, the City Council, the Housing and Redevelopment Commission, non-profit agencies, and City employees. CDBG funds are allocated for neighborhood and facility improvements, housing rehabilitation, homebuyer loans, and social services.
